RESURGENT CITIES

Neoliberal urban policy has created global conditions that dramatically impact cities and their residents. RESURGENT CITIES interconnect locals to break disciplinary boundaries, stimulate collaborations among professionals, and engage with people who live the local realities. It recognizes a new form of city development that has at its center the notion that civil society can use their knowledge, skills, and, ultimately, their potential to build better living conditions.

The RESURGENT CITIES are Mexico City, New York, Rotterdam and Quito, with each territory having its specific focus and collaborations. In Mexico City, Urban Front works with public agencies positions at different governance levels to devise policy and programs to preserve and increase affordable housing through new instruments and development models. In New York, Urban Front collaborates with The Shape of Cities to Come Institute on strengthening activism across fields and nurturing grassroots knowledge towards the creation of transformative approaches, theories, processes, and actionable tools. In the province of Pichincha, where Quito is located, Urban Front guides the process of transforming technical points focused on digital literacy into community-managed cultural centers by tooling alternative management models and pedagogical frameworks. In Rotterdam, Urban Front collaborates with the Afrikaanderwijk Cooperative’s Coöperatief Consultancy Buro on gathering and disseminating tools, knowledges and strategies to reinforce and protect citizens’ rights and agency.

RESURGENT CITIES is being developed with the support of the Creative Industries Fund Netherlands.
